Star-Gazing Night - Summer Celestial Highlights (20-8-2009)

An 18 inch Dobsonian scope and an 8 inch refractor were used for observing the best summer celestial objects in their full glory. With their superb light-collecting power, it was possible to see many objects almost as they are in textbooks. Roughly twenty objects were observed, including distant planets (e.g. Uranus and Neptune), open clusters (e.g. M11, the false comet cluster and ET cluster), globular clusters (e.g. M22 and M4) and bright nebulae (e.g. M8 and M17). The most memorable objects, however, were planetary nebulae. The visual impression of M27 Dumbbell Nebula truly matched that of its photographic image, and the blinking effect of NGC6826 was incredibly real and amazing.
