Public Outreach at St Mark's Primary School (8-11-2013)

About 40 students, teachers and parents joined our public outreach activity at St Mark's Primary School. We started with a crescent-shaped Venus which was mistaken as UFO recently by some members of the public. For those who witnessed the Transit of Venus in 2012, the planet brought back warm memories of the amazing phenomenon last year. Our 12 inch telescope was then slewed to the moon, with the fantastic crater Posidonius and Mare Nactaris prominently on display near the terminator. The striking colours of Albireo, with the contrasting red and blue stars, completed our brief but exciting observation before the clouds rolled in. It was the perfect time to start the dinner!
